The M.L.King district dates back to the 1800's. The M.L.King Community is
recognized for its rich and diverse history and its ability to promote economic
prosperity for African Americans. Operation Weed and Seed recognizes that
residents and business owners are the driving force of the community. The
M.L.King Weed and Seed strategy is to revitalize and improve the targeted area
with a mix of residential, commercial business and government partnership.
Our Mission at M.L.King Weed and Seed is to collaborate with residents,
merchants, law enforcement agents, intervention/prevention practitioners, and
the faith based community to develop and implement comprehensive crime reduction
strategies, strengthen community partnerships and improve quality of life issues
in the MLK neighborhood.
The purpose of the Weed and Seed website is to facilitate this mission by
promoting information exchange to and from the residents and business owners of
the community. The site also is a tool to educate residents about drug
identification, substance abuse and solutions to the drug and crime problem in
our area. This is to be accomplished by providing news, information and by
providing a point of contact to facilitate communication between these parties
and Weed and Seed administrators. We encourage you to take advantage of this
site and we hope that it will become a central part in reaching our goals for
the M.L.King area. Funding for the Weed and Seed efforts are provided through a
Grant from the Department of Justice - Community Capacity Development office.

Strategy
The two major components of the Weed & Seed grant are the "weeding" strategy
and the "seeding" strategy. The Weeding strategy is utilized to eliminate
criminal elements from the identified site, by aggressively targeting violent
crimes, gun crimes and drug offenses. The second part of the Weeding strategy
focuses on increasing the community police officers and strengthening police /
resident crime fighting partnerships. The Seeding strategy focuses on sponsoring
and co-sponsoring intervention / prevention programs for youth and adults. The
second part of the Seeding strategy focuses on community revitalization. To
achieve our "Weeding" goals / objectives, we have recruited the major
partners below.
Contacting Weed and Seed
The Weed & Seed office is located at 804 Central Ave, which is recognized as
the Safe Haven / Community Policing & Safety Training Center. The ML King
Community Development Corporation, Chattanooga African American Museum and
Tommie Brown Academy are also Safe Haven sites.
In a effort to promote information exchange, the website is equipped with a
HotSheet feedback page. It is the purpose of this form to let a anonymous
resident of the community to directly contact the administrators of MLK Weed and
Seed to address community problems, drug houses, and safety concerns in which
the Weed and Seed office may be able to assist in.
Hotsheet feedback is checked on a daily basis and will be routed to the
appropriate Weed and Seed department capable of handling each request. To go to
the HotSheet page or to get more information on it, please
